Surgical Technology

Program Description

If you want to be rewarded daily for making a difference in a patient鈥檚 life, a career as a surgical technologist is ideal for you. Our program teaches you the skills necessary to become a successful surgical technologist. When you graduate, you will be able to anticipate the needs of the surgical team and assist the surgeon by holding retractors, cutting sutures, suctioning wounds, adjusting lights, and applying dressings.

You are able to take classes at the Lincoln campus or online. Our online component is designed to accommodate those who live outside the Lincoln area, but within the state of Nebraska. Students who live in the Lincoln area may also apply for the online option. Regardless of how you take your classes (in person or online), you will be required to attend labs either in Lincoln or at a designated lab closest to you (sites in Norfolk, Lexington and Kearney). You will also attend clinicals at a pre-approved clinical site to achieve a specific number of surgical procedures to meet graduation requirements. Online students may be asked to travel to Lincoln throughout the program.
